The Manitoba flood of 2009 came and went, taking with it the prospects of a prosperous season for the most productive agricultural region of the province. Of course, the Manitoba Government did what they could to alleviate the flooding-sandbagging, assistance for displaced families, etc. But one thing they tried that didn’t work out so well was to launch a press release on April 30th, declaring that overland flooding was “virtually done.” As in, all the farmland is ready to rock out for another season (technically, I should say “ready to grow food.” Farmland isn’t too good at rocking out due to the whole “not moveable” thing.)
That would have been great, except for one thing–the day that press release came out was the day I took these photos of what seemed like inland oceans near the village of Rosenort, MB.
Naturally, I sent them in to a major farming paper, thinking I was really on to something. According to the fact that these pictures only appear here and on my flickr account, I’m not. Apparently, there’s a reason why I didn’t go to J-school.
